Peta Astbury-Bulsara (MBA, Adel) has over 18 years of experience in the content industry (TV, online, radio, post-production, IP licensing & film). Peta developed two arms of her career in parallel – in the film and television industries. Over 11 years at the ABC’s International Division, she worked across television and online and had a reputation for creating efficient production methodology with high production values. Peta’s debut independent feature film – the independently financed, low-budget comedy hit The Marriage of Figaro (2009) was released on 19 screens across Australia, screened at London Australian Film Festival 2010, Dungog Film Festival 2010, Jetstar, DVD and iTunes & continues to be broadcast nationally on the Nine Network.
Since leaving the ABC in 2014, Peta produced the comedy pilot Heaps Good Hostel (SBS, 2015), the 6 x 5 min romantic/black comedy series Almost Midnight (ABC iView, 2016) – named in journalist Luke Buckmaster’s 8 of the Best Australian web series (Guardian 13/07/17) and most recently The Heights – 30 x 1/2-hour serial drama for the ABC, produced by Matchbox Pictures in association with Peta’s production company, For Pete’s Sake Productions. Peta is also Adjunct Lecturer in Screen Studies at the University of Notre Dame, Fremantle and a PhD provisional candidate; with her research to expand on her career’s work of facilitating innovation in the production space.Back to Speakers
