Dr Wilson Main

University of South Australia - Producer of Children's Television / Lecturer

Dr Wilson Main is an experienced television producer who has produced over 800 episodes of television across Australia, UK and New Zealand, and created new programs for both the Nine and Ten Networks. He has been involved in the early development of programs in the UK including the BAFTA award-winning program Bounty Hamster. Consulting work has included Phil Roman Animation, Fruit Ninja and CCTV (China).  Wilson is also a musician and has toured Europe & the USA and has composed numerous themes and soundtracks for television.  His Doctoral Thesis was an ethnographic study that followed the development of an international children’s TV program across several countries, involving a cast of producers and writers as they struggled to reach consensus on exactly what should be in a program for young girls. It observed the team’s progress as they worked to convince broadcasters, such as Nickelodeon and the BBC, that it is actually feasible to create a successful program that doesn’t require a male hero to save the day.

Wilson now lectures in Screenwriting and Film & TV production at UniSA.
