Kirsty Stark on the value of Mentors

Kirsty Stark is a Producer at Epic Films and Development Producer at Matchbox Pictures, running their South Australian office.

She has worked in the film industry for the past decade, initially as a freelance camera assistant and cinematographer before moving into production in 2012.

I’ve been lucky to have several industry mentors since leaving university and starting my career – first in the camera department and then on my early projects as a producer. Some of these relationships were more informal, but it meant a lot to have people who backed me and my work, talked through project strategies and career advice with me, and helped me work my way up to bigger projects. Even now, I am always continuing to learn from those with more experience, at the same time as trying to pass on some of my knowledge and advice to the next generation of filmmakers.

Kirsty’s recent work includes co-producing Stateless with Matchbox Pictures, and producing the new Epic Films First Day seriesboth for the ABC. Her other credits as Producer include Goober, Unboxed , and  Wastelander Panda: Exile for ABC iview, First Day for ABC ME and the feature film A Month of Sundays.

Kirsty has presented at SXSW and TEDxAdelaide, and received multiple awards for her work. Epic Films was named the Screen Producers Australia “Breakthrough Business of the Year” in 2016.

We are thrilled to have Kirsty on board as a Screenmakers Connect Careermakers Mentor along with a stellar line up of industry leaders including award winning writers, directors, producers, games developers, as well as industry leaders, and heads of department.
